Democracy,majority, India and the world

January 23, 2009 § 16 Comments

Its no more Barack H Obama,it is president Barack H Obama. So there we have it,like everyone else around the world,I too was glued to the T.V. ,as arguably the world’s most powerful office was taken over by a man who promises much. And as a prelude to what we might expect, he stopped a trail in Guantanmo Bay and is all set to close it.

Solilo rasied a few interesting points about our democracy and this was my comment:-

I like this post,my view about our country is simple
-our constitution is the third epic we have given to the world, after mahabaratha and ramayana.
-democracy is the biggest hypocrisy. Not that I am communist either,in fact democracy seems better of the two devils. The fact is only we “educated” people bother about all this, for the farmer,if he gets free T.V,he doesn’t realize he has to pay more bribes,or maybe they are used to it,like we are paying to cops etc..
-having a single person seems more dangerous, see what Bush did..
-whats the solution now? proper democracy? ya right and how are we ever going to bring out fair play? maybe give a fair play award, like FIFA does in every world cup..simple the cup would be sold..

I know I sound rather cynical and pessimistic, but then seriously we need people who are dedicated. The talk about how we were united during freedom struggle is all fine,we knew the face of the “enemy” but now we don’t.Not just as a state, but as the “global village”.

So continuing from where i left,I have never really thought of democracy as what Mr.Lincoln said -of the people,by the people, for the people.

Basically “people ” here would mean the majority. Now how do we know that the majority is right? If majority is always right, then how did we end up with a Bush? And it was funny seeing Americans themselves almost booing Bush. So is majority always right?

There is a saying in Tamil “Makal theeirpa makesan theeirpa” or “the people’s judgement,is God’s judgement”.I am sure there is a saying to that effect in every language. But past the romanticism of such sayings, throughout history we have seen people’s judgement as a society, not being “sane” shall we say.

The fact remains that society is a summation of individuals. Now most individuals are gullible(not enough integrity,I would say,Et tu Brute?),so if one person can harangue their belief to the masses, something like Antony did, then we are left with a judgement of one person .Without trying to digress into the merits of Brutus’ actions(after all under the statue it was, right?) ,what we do know,is that the crowd is always willing to jump on to boat with more gold.Nothing is more emphatic than bribing people for votes.

There are so many things, which we have to accept as a part of society,de reguiuer more than anything else. Yet we teach kids(I am  still  a kid) to be truthful,be honest etc, the most blasphemous thing about it is blackmail( it is blackmail ) -“God will poke your eye.” As a kid, growing up,I thought for a long time, adults as those who have values, kids are the ones who are frivolous as they don’t get the seriousness of life(blah blah blah{my am I falling in love with BODMAS?}) and when I did realize that adults are the ones who really a rope around the foot,it was some sort of revelation.

Majority isn’t always right. It seems a very mean conclusion to arrive at,particularly seeing the things majority dream about. For all the talk of majority wins, it actually took a single individual to get us (allegedly) independence.Yes,there were a lot of others, but they all were (to eulogize)a force, yet not too big enough. While Munna Bhai might be standing elections and making a few promiscuous statement about family names, we are still voting for the better devil.

And devils being devils ,have a set formula. Say you get this and that.Unity or communalism ,democracy or the thumb rule. The manifesto the “leaders” deliver, seems to be a mirror, they reflect what the people want to hear, yet they are painted behind. We are a nation which dreams about unity, about a social equity, yet it is easier for a criminal to hold a seat,in the highest house, while for others to hold on to their houses seems difficult.

The majority of us,don’t want wars or torture. Now try telling that to Taliban or Israel ? Are we trying to sell something here, which no one will buy? Or should we coat it with oil or stud with diamonds which they anyway have?

Questioning the human standard of “goodness” is what all we “good” people do.Yet beyond the first question,we have never travelled, now I do wonder,if we “good” were to choose a leader who would it be?

There is the concept of “mixing it” in football.Where in you just don’t play pretty passing game, you put in a few hard tackles and may be even break a couple of foot. But aren’t we supposed to be breaking the foot of the common enemy? Now the common enemy team, lets say are these :-

Terrorism:-Well my views are very clear about terrorism

I am tempted to add religion but abstained(immaculate) from it.Mainly because,it is the root.I don’t consider it as a social problem,it is something far wider,it is in the mind,a psychological problem,no one would ever in the name of God or in the name of not believing(we are a nation of Hindus,Muslims,Christians,Sikhs,Parsis, Buddhists and non-believers )in it commit atrocities which violate every sense of pride an animal has.

So these evils we need to throw a few hard tackles at.Yet what is the problem? It is their method for one thing(fire for fire maybe?) and we are too humane to consider hurting them. And end of the day,we are happy to live our lives(nothing wrong in that, only thing we might get affected someday ).

The only reason why Israel bombs Gaza is because Gaza has no nuclear weapons, same thing with Iraq and Afghanistan, now why then Afghanistan’s neighbor not bombed? Simple, even though they brew the Taliban mix, they have nuclear bombs, Blackmail. So where is freedom and democracy ?

I am not far from the truth, when I say, equity is still a dream and will always be a dream for the society. The more globalised we become, the more we would tend to discriminate:-

A good example are the reservation policies, it is not about each one according to your worth,oh! no it is all about which caste you belong to! And oh! whats the preamble again?

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens:

JUSTICE, social, economic and political;
LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;
EQUALITY of status and of opportunity;
and to promote among them all
FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;

IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this twenty-sixth day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.

Hypocrisy ? Good enough, isn’t it.Well it is an epic as I said. We  find the government doing work against all this. But what I should appreciate is that if I were in a communist country I would not even be allowed to write this. So much for my two paise of freedom. I live in a large Metro and one of the country’s safest,I have no clue of communal violence except what I read and see on T.V. I will proudly say,my city is one in which communal violence will not boil out.

So back to the whole issue of majority. When the parties try to sell positions in the country, how far are we from the old situation? What are the virtues and what are the vices? The ban against Smoking, hasn;t gone anywhere. Nor has U.N. done anything great about human rights situation(OMG! UN? WHATS THAT?) in many countries.

The leaders and whom so ever it is gain power, thanks to support. So as a society we need to do something( not watch NDTV and send SMSes and comments). Whatever system arises, there will be some problems which arise,as the aces dealt are equal(wow! something is fair!) to all.The fiends ,will grow along, but we need to grow faster than them.We need to evolve into something they can’t catch. And at doing all this,we need to do it in a way, which our “inner voice” will agree. When we choose someone,we need to know what they do.Maybe instead of the budget, the government should publish the cash flow for each project it undertakes.Maybe,we educated need to stand up and take control. In times when we are moving into the age of intelligence, a person who is still stuck with medieval ideas can do no good. And without pointing fingers, what we will have to do is,take up the onus and try to initiate a change.

And to change, it is the children(nurture) whom we can start it with. The terrorists have learned it well.We should make sure, that the poor kids learn values which do the world good. We need to stop war,as all it does is cause more anger, when an action is so sever ,what about the reaction? We need people with the same standards.

President Obama seems to be the person, but I am not that sure others are going to cooperate.

Lets hope for the best.

Shut up,please!

December 2, 2008 § 21 Comments

first let me start with a big thanks to all the news channels for covering the Mumbai Terror attacks, without you people,we all would be ignorant of the lapse in our security, what really happened(even though a few speculations few around, but I forgive you for that and also for not reporting all those people who died  and lost their homes thanks to the cyclone) and the true heros and the zeros. Now ,please shut up!

Yes we are angry. But what is the use of getting more and more people to talk, talk and talk more? This is getting blase. Are they trying to gain more TRPs? The best part is no speaker gets to make his/her point clearly.I think we all need to give the government time .What action do we expect the government to take? Bomb the country the terrorists came from? So for a while let us watch and listen, enough of  all this hullabaloo.I too am pissed off by such an action, but “let us act like civilised people” (yes act,are we all civilized?) and watch for a while.

And I had this interesting question,

Hanuman set fire to Lanka, why isn’t that terrorism?

And no i am not promoting terrorism(if you think I am,then read my poems, and FYI,i don’t even crush the mosquitoes,so)It is just a question which poped up.If you don’t want to use your name, you can always use Anon, but yes I am looking forward to answers on this one.

does my existence on this earth matter to you?

September 15, 2008 § 14 Comments

So does what i think, matter? Well to me it surely does and to people with whom i interact it does.Even if it doesn’t matter to those around,it surely matters to me and i will give my opinion in any matter i please and no i am not going to give reasons for ,I do it,simple because i feel like doing it. Now does my existence matter,to people around me? Instead of me answering this,i think i should let people around me answer it.See this post to know what i am talking about here.

On a larger perpective,I feel everyone has a part to play.Every drop has its value in a ocean.Everything, has an influence on everything else.As Paulo says ” When a person really desires something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream.”

As a society too, what everyone thinks matters. And mostly people’s thinking is affected by what people around them think.History has seen many inspiring speeches which have lead to inspired actions.

An action in one thing, surely is going to induce a reaction. And like in a pond, even when a small pebble is thrown, there are ripples caused.

So again “does my existence on this earth matter to you? “

detachment in attachment?

August 4, 2008 § 14 Comments

This question came to me suddenly and have pondering it since morning, what do you think is detachment in attachment?

It does sound vague to a lot of people but i did managed to make a few people think. The funny thing was who ever i asked the question, thought i knew the answers and were reluctant to answer the question.

Anyway we read everywhere, that we need to be detached from everything. But the true meaning i have see is that while we love we need to be detached too.Now this is pretty vague, but the way i see it is this-you need to willing to separate from it.I.e.you should be ready to share. This is what Gibran says

If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. And if they don’t, they never were.

But i think it can mean so much more,So what do you think detachment in attachment can mean?

And if do you think you can give up what you have?

Questions and questioning

July 30, 2008 § 12 Comments

questions….questions and more questions…How do we ask so many questions?

Asking Questions is really really easy, isn’t it? Yet it is an art to ask them. You first of need to understand what is either going or not going on first. Why do i say what is going or what not is going on?

When Asking a question in class, you can do it only if you either understand the subject or if you have no clue what is going on(e.g,why sir,is 1*1=1?)Similarly when you are outside you ask questions to people, like what is happening, why is this happening, etc.

So why do we question anyway? We question so that we get to know something more.Simple isn’t it?Yet we human have come up with really weird questions and managed to answer a few of them too.

It isn’t normal for a person to question when something which has always being happening happens. For eg,an apple falling from a tree. What led to one person thinking about it differently? What made him question why it falls and not the moon? So what we need to notice is what he questioned and the way he questioned it.He could have asked why is it falling, answered himself with the age old answer, cause it is supposed too.Well more than me saying ,a quote would help here,so here it is:

“To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old problems from a new angle, requires creative imagination and marks real advance in science.”

-Albert Einstein

and another one from him,

“We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”

I have written about questioning many times before, but the reason why i am writing again is because i want to see what I think about questioning now. There are times in school, when my friends make fun of me for asking questions. If they want to stop the class, they turn to me and ask me to ask questions. It always makes me wonder how come people can never come with questions.Of course it is not that they are not capable nor am i trying to ridicule them ,but how is it that It is easy for a few to ask questions, while others never have questions?

Questioning is an art.The only ones who can question are the ones who are brave. You need to brave to ask the questions. The answers never come to you like a lighting flash.Once you have asked the question you need to try and understand what is it you want to know. You need to search for the door, which will take you to the answer. Now it is important not to get over whelmed by the question. You need to sleep over it(or well do something else with it) so that the question or problem isn’t as big as it seems. The main problem is that we are all used to seeing things the way they are,so we first need to let our mind see it the way it wants to.To do this,we need to register what we see in our subconscious mind, not that we don’t normally do it,it is always happening,we just need to realize that it is happening.Once your sub has got it,you just need to forget about the problem and let the sub deal with it.When we think on our own,we think about a given problem with our limited knowledge, but our sub has more knowledge,so it is capable of getting things done.Once it is done,it will ping you.

So what happens when you have asked the right question and let your sub on it? Well the answer is simple, more questions.Sometimes questions keep on coming. But that is the beauty of it.As you solve one question another pops up.Maybe it is because we use a very little part of our brain.

Anyway,I will leave you all with a few questions to ponder…

What/who is god? Don’t you think, that it can be a creation of our mind?I.e. a huge illusion, which was conceived by one person and became so popular that everyone fell under it?What do you think might be reality? How have we humans managed to think? Why are we what we are- a thoughtful race(as we think)? What is the universe doing? What are you doing? Why are you here? What are you supposed to be doing?Who are you?what are you?why should we study? How were people a 100 years back?

solutions are created before problems.

What do you think?

quotes from here.

Thinking about my identity

July 23, 2008 § 13 Comments

What is the use? what is the use of this world?

It is always amazing,to know that we the significant micro(maybe even smaller) particles who make up the universe have some purpose and a life to live. Why i live my life,in a regimented way, going to school, supposedly learning things. What will it be like to be in another planet? What will I be,if i were in another planet.Would that planet too have death as we have? What is the big deal anyway of being earthling?

Think of the universe,as it is.I know it is too big to fit into my minuscule three dimensional imagination, but whatever little i can ‘see’,leaves me perplexed ,confused and in a dire need for becoming larger than life itself. Why how can something so big exist in the first place? When i was small, the sun was just ‘nature’ something which i was born into.It was a constant,to the mind which was ready to be tinkered ,it saw what what others thought they saw.The moon Always represented an old lady making ‘idly’.the beach was a place where something called waves lashed on endlessly and if i ventured into it alone,i would be eaten by it.My life was of prime importance to me.Being another heir of the mistake stricken ,unwanted humanity, survival was the instinct.

But as i grew up,i slowly realized, that things are different. In fact education does at least that much to you.You are told that we belong to a solar system and that the moon goes around us.The next time i saw the moon,i looked  at it as an entity who was moving around the earth. Now i am digging really deep to feel what i felt then.It is surprising that ‘life’ is so old. What are these memories? So are we a dream,a memory too?

Me writing rather typing,is an memory in more ways than one.Since i am writing i do not care what happens else where around me.Why would i react when i am content, why the moment will always be embedded in me,carved into me,for i am in tune with the reminiscence of the world’s making. Did we go to the heavens because earth never satisfied us? Why when did we realize that we were nothing more that illusive little creatures, who don’t know anything?

On earth everything has the touch of man,as it has of ‘god’.Almost all our fellow creatures, all the flora and fauna which were painted with the magic wand along with us ,have been cut, dissected, bisected, trisected and researched upon. We have arrived at the conclusion that we are the only ones who can think the best.We were after all the once who discovered the existence of God.

Our identity as human beings, has perpetuated from our predecessors. But deep inside all of us know that this is not our absolute identity. When we look at the sky and stare stars and suns ,we feel an old belonging ,the sight of home, after an hiatus to hibernation. Since we are the clever modern super humans in terms of an ever expanding brain and since we know about the big bang and such and such,we run a particle accelerator inside our cramped cavity, reproducing with a eerie contentment, what we feel is the origin of the universe. We revel in it for a few spectacular moments,we run the jocund clowns of happiness in us to such speeds that ecstasy is what we pronounce. We are all happy to be home,we wish to keep seeing our Gods for longer, but the ever severing mind, declares that you have to break the bonds,to live life and produce yourself to sacrifice for the betterment of man.You don’t want it.Who wants to move from home, after a long voyage?Who wants to travel, when travel is all he has done?Who wants to swim, when he has all the while swam?Yet since you are the mind, with a rhetoric puffed up displeasure you try to satisfy your real want with a chronic happiness ,which is at most momentary and small enough to displease the materialistic narcissistic in you and carry on with it.I am trying to write something and all the while i am thinking of the wonderous world, whose width widens my perspective.I am here and i am not.

What is my identity?Am i a lost sibling of a distant star, for whom if i am found,i will look the same as when i landed on Eden? Or have i crossed an Adam’s bridge,to burn all that was bad and mortal? Am i an entity for whom this body was a lease, lent by earth to write off her ever lasting loans?Or am i, simply an animal,a tainted beast, with the curse of thought and want of fantastical fantasies to suit my ill-tempered unbalanced mind? What am i anyway?

Yes,i feel lost.Yes i feel lost here too.Yet i can hear the world, but i can’t see it.I can hear the old song, but my eyes have grown used to this,so that the old song,is a poignant, nostalgic de -javu.i dream up lands,i build my castles.I am a man,a human, who has written tales upon tales with fairies and fun and frolic but i am also the man who writes edifices and breaths the voice of an enigmatic Satan,a suitable tool ,one sprung during my autumn,to sooth the God in me.yet i know,i do not need him,for i was the one who gave god a face, which he can hold high and i was the one who taught him to write,so that he can say what he felt.I lent a being bigger than me,i lent it not one but two identity,i created a juxtapose of the good and the bad,of light and night,of God and Satan, yet i fail at lending myself a single identity.I call myself the third.I am happy to pull the strings of the first too.Yet my fingers move without my knowledge in my sleep, they want home and what they see is that destruction can retrace me,to where i belong.

There is music playing in the background. The song is melodious. It is a classic,it breaths life into the creature, whose identity is his name and his music. Why what caused him to play and create music?Did he realize that if he struck his strings and quietened the world with symphonies ,he might be able to shriek out for his lost sibling?Or did he realize that when he played his music,he could be himself ,free and inheritor of freedom, the absolute transparent being, who could smile away adversity and sleep ugly to beauty? I am listening to his and with gusto summoning my aesthetic consciousness to appreciate his ballades.I try to feel the same joy he felt when his fingers were let lose upon the keys,to key in the codes of his disparity among humanity. But his code was always good, for such is the magic,of the hands who are at home, always, poor pathetic things, they can’t see nor hear, they are slaves whose only wish is to satisfy their master, as they feel that is their duty and destiny.

Movements. The breeze tickles the trees. Those gigantic beings let out giggles. Why among humanity their existence is varied. One day they are paraphrased as the basic need for the survival of humanity’s earth, the next day, they are cut by the very hands,oh! pathetic hands, they are the only ones who want to get us home.

If my hands know my home, then why don’t I?Should i close my eyes, for all eternity,so that the reality has a chance to roll the dice and bring me home to see its son?I wish i could, but i have a mind, who is a ardent appraiser of the rebellious me.I am torn by my hands, physically and by my mind mentally.I ask you both,i think of either home or heaven-hell only when i am felt free,to my peace. They refuse.I shut my eyes. The hands sway the puppets of infinity, they try to hail home closer. The mind eats into me,they ruthlessly try to disrupt the harmony and bleed my namesake into surrender, but they fail ,neither will give up,i am the used,i am the user,i am between myself.I am still wondering about me and my true reality, one thing is for sure,i will lose mortality when i find the reality, let it be soon.Mortality is lost, when sense of reality is found.

May the world be in peace.Home is not far away, the darkest night,is the last of winter, the coldest water is one before the hot.Let the world exist at it should, let every man reach his harbor and let every flight end at home, may the world be in peace,i go to sleep….

about me ,thinking and questioning

July 2, 2008 § 10 Comments

I am what i am.That is it.Do i think too much? Well i don’t know,but if i didn’t think,then i will not be me.It isn’t supposed to be two posts about me,i wasn’t planning this,but then it struck me that i need to clarify a few things.

A lot of you ask me,am i really 16? It is easier to laugh this one out.I wonder why people think i am not 16 .The reason might be that i think differently. Now i wonder why i think differently. The fact that i think differently from the majority of people in my age group is tough to accept. To me,there is nothing strange in asking questions, questioning is life.

The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity.-Albert Einstein (1879 – 1955)

Questions, questions and more questions exist in this world. As Einstein says, there is no limit to asking questions.I ask myself why do i question? And the replies i get are infinite, for my mind can think without rest.I try to let my mind think all its want.I like dreams,i like the impossible ,i like fantasies to say the least.
So why should I come back to this so called “reality” of yours? I am pretty comfortable with where I am.If you want come with me and i will show you the way i think, but it isn’t easy for me to accept what you think.I love to watch clouds.I love the silence of night.I love to dream. And most of all ,i love it when my brain and heart churn out answers.it must be the greatest feeling to get answers, but then all answers lead to more questions and so think more.

Look at all the sentences which seem true and question them.

David Reisman

Now i haven’t progressed much here.I am still caught up.I am still trying to think out if i should be writing this.As i said i am very happy in the world i live. When someone says a no to something,i believe it can mean a yes.i believe that i can find solutions to the perennial problems of humanity, for i can think.yet thinking does lead to dead ends. Those are the times when you are left desperate, that is when you press your mind to think harder and you wish and think that you can think that one out.

Judge of a man by his questions rather than by his answers.

Voltaire (1694 – 1778)

this is one of the most truest sayings. And so i shall end this with a few questions:

why all this?
why life?
why god?
what for?
why live?
why die?
why think?
why not think?
why hurt?
why love?
why a end?
why a beginning?
why a nation?
why humiliation?
why hunger?
why poverty?
why education?
why earth?
why universe?
why big bang?
why creation?
why everything?

and here is what i think about everything

SOLUTIONS ARE CREATED BEFORE PROBLEMS
