Monika has tagged me! And yup, this is the first tag on this blog! What’s more it’s about books and reading! So without much ado, here we go 😀

Favorite childhood book?

The Faraway Tree series by Enid Blyton!

What are you reading right now?

Gulliver’s Travels. Am on a mission to read as many classics as possible. One they are cheap and two they are awesome!

Bad book habit?

Er..is lying down on the bed and reading a bad habit? Well that’s how I read 😀

Do you have an e-reader?

Thought about it, but it isn’t too cost effective is it? And I love the feel of books.

Do you prefer to read one book at a time or several at once?

One book at a time. Very very rarely, do I read more than one at a time. This is because I like to be ‘under the spell’ of a book. Reading too many things leaves me confused.

Have your reading habits changed since starting a blog?

Yes. I push myself to read more so that I can write reviews 🙂

Least favorite book you read this year (so far)?

I drop the book if I don’t like it, so can’t say read completely. But yes, didn’t like Theodore Boone much, haven’t finished it, don’t think I will either.

And oh! I forgot Two States! Grr…..no comments.

Favorite book you’ve read this year?

Every book I have reviewed here. If I have to pick one, will say Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, changed my thinking.

How often do you read out of your comfort zone?

Don’t really have a comfort zone. Like reading all sort of books, expect academic. So, if you take academic to be a genre, then, I do read out of my comfort zone 😉 How often? When ever I have exams 🙂

What is your reading comfort zone?

As mentioned above, anything except academic. But would love to read more Sci-fi. Not much of a sci-fi fan.

Can you read on the bus?

I don’t usually go by bus or other public transport. But if I do, prefer observing people and watching outside the window.

Favorite place to read?

My bed.

What is your policy on book lending?

I don’t usually lend. None of friends are great readers and well if I were to lend- no dogears, no writing on pages and you should take care of it like a kohinoor(the diamond I mean 😉 )

Do you ever dog-ear books?

😐 :O Do you? If you do, don’t talk to me 😐

Do you ever write in the margins of your books?

No way!

Not even with text books?

Used to in school textbooks. Boy, they were specimens. Used to sketch, write, scribble etc. Pity, I don’t have any of ’em to show people 😉

What is your favorite language to read in?

English. Am very slow at reading Tamil(after 10 years of learning the language). But hope I can read books in tamil and sanskrit one day.

What makes you love a book?

Every book is a journey. At the end of it, you are better person.

What will inspire you to recommend a book?

I recommend most books which I read. The reason being that each and every book I read has an influence on me. I’m very picky in choosing what I read, so most of them are worth it! 🙂

Favorite genre?

None is particular. Will say everything expect Sci-fi and Biographies and Autobiographies. That said, Jules Verne is one of my all time favourites.

Genre you rarely read (but wish you did?)

Favorite biography?

I don’t read biographies or autobiographies. Gave Mein Kampf a shot, but couldn’t finish it.

Have you ever read a self-help book?

Gone through a few, but don’t like them. They bore me.

Most inspirational book you’ve read this year (fiction or non-fiction)?

Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse – you can read the review here .

Favorite reading snack?

I don’t eat while reading a book.

Name a case in which hype ruined your reading experience.

Don’t pick up books just because it is hyped. But well Two States! Alright, it was funny, entertaining etc, but the author surely is racist.

How often do you agree with critics about a book?

Er..I don’t really care. I don’t read critical reviews and analysis. I judge for myself. So no clue what the critics think.

How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews?

I don’t write negative reviews. If I don’t like the book, I won’t review it.

If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you chose?

Ancient Latin? Or Arabic/Urdu.

Most intimidating book you’ve ever read?

Not really been intimidated by anything.

Most intimidating book you’re too nervous to begin?

Er..? Think I’m three years away from receiving  my CA final material 😉

Favorite Poet?

Favorite fictional character?

There are a few. As a kid my favourite was Frederick Algernon Trotteville aka. Fatty. Poriot, Siddhartha, Sherlock Holmes, Peter Pan, Harry Potter etc

Favorite fictional villain?

Lord Voldemort. Though the movies made him look one of those animals they cook in Master Chef.

Books I’m most likely to bring on vacation?

Whatever I’m reading at the moment.

The longest I’ve gone without reading.

The day I was born to the day I learnt to read properly?

Name a book that you could/would not finish.

Mien Kampf.

What distracts you easily when you’re reading?

Sleep. Tend to read till I drop like a log.

Favorite film adaptation of a novel?

Around the world in 80 days. Jackie Chan!

Most disappointing film adaptation?

Harry Potter. Commercialised.

The most money I’ve ever spent in the bookstore at one time?

Tend to spend about 1K everytime I go to buy books.

How often do you skim a book before reading it?

Always. Unless of course, it happens to be a book which I have read about/have read extracts of.

What would cause you to stop reading a book half-way through?

Do you like to keep your books organized?

Guess so.

Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once you’ve read them?

Keep them. Want to make a library 😉

Are there any books you’ve been avoiding?

Er..auditing? Infotech?  But have an exam next week though, so started (trying) to study.

Name a book that made you angry.

Two States- Racist.

A book you didn’t expect to like but did?

Bala takes the Plunge by Melvin Durai.

A book that you expected to like but didn’t?

Favorite guilt-free, pleasure reading?

Calvin! I usually don’t reread, but Calvin!

Books I love or “the ones I can read again and again and again and…..”

As I said, I don’t reread anything.

So I tag:-

  • Poonam says:

haha, I remember ‘Two States’ one – I agree. 🙂 And I too never write in books, no dog ears. And yeah, love to read in bed. Even e-books. Really bad habit – unhealthy. I would love to reread, but who has the time. There is so much I am still to read.

And must write negative reviews, they are public service. Club them together. Thanks for the tag, Monika also did. Now, I must write.

  • So many questions? Though I am not reading any book now, I will do this tag for the fun of it! Mein Kampf is not a biography, and if you want to read his biography, read “The Rise and Fall of Third Reich” – its an excellent account of everything that happened before and after the World War II. I must admit that i too was not able to read beyond 127 pages of that book – Mein Kampf!
